Buffalo Bay, Buffel’s or Buff’s as it’s known by the locals, is arguably one of Knysna’s favourite beaches amongst sunbathers, swimmers and surfers.
And while surfing is a year-round activity in the protected bay, the Ross Taylor Benefit Surf Contest taking place in August has fast become THE surfing event on the national calendar. Held in aid of Hospice, the 2012 benefit contest was South Africa’s most entered surfing contest of the year and organisers are already working on plans for 2013. With more than just surfing, the weekend offers families events such as beach walks, sand castle building, stand up paddling and a huge party with awesome local entertainment. Make sure that you don’t miss out and book your accommodation now!

Stand up paddling is one of the world’s fastest growing sports and a fantastic way to have fun outdoors while getting some serious exercise done. And with the Goukamma River cradling Buff’s to the west, this is the perfect spot to perfect your balance.

Buff’s also sports two beaches. The ‘Wild Side’ to the west also falls within the Goukamma Nature Reserve and is ideal for long, lonesome walks away from the crowds. The main beach is the popular swimming and surfing area and has also recently been afforded Blue Flagstatus.
