Some might have it right at the top of their list while others have it listed closer to the bottom of theirs, but skydiving is on everyone’s bucket list. So, come fly in Knysna and view paradise from a different perspective.
At some stage or another we’ve all wished that we could fly like a bird – and Knysna’s airspace allows you to do so. Take a deep breath, make sure your eyes are open and take the plunge from 10 000 feet above one of the most beautiful places on earth.
The instructors at Skydive Knysna each have more than 5 000 jumps under the belt and over 20 years’ worth of experience, so you can be sure that you’re in safe hands as you soar over the ocean, mysterious forests, Cape fynbos and fertile farmlands surrounding Knysna.
Only 15 minutes from Knysna by car, the Skydive Knysna team will take you on a quick tandem jump training course, equipping you with all the information you need to ensure that your jump is safe and memorable. A 20 minute flight over Buffalo Bay and the famous Knysna Heads takes you to 10 000 feet above our breathtakingly beautiful region – and then you jump!
With extreme packages that allow you to read the altitude, pull the ripcord, steer the parachute and assist with the landing, chances are the team will surprise you with a few spins and somersaults – just for laughs.
Alternatively you can spread your extremities and enjoy the 35-40 second freefall at about 220km/h. But here’s the funny thing – it doesn’t feel like falling at all! Because of all the intricate physics of the thing (which we won’t be going into here), there’s no sensation of ‘dropping’ and, what with being more than three kilometres above ground, there is no sense of height either. Your speed stays the same throughout the entire ‘flight’ while the ground does not seem to get any closer. And you really are flying like a bird, as you and your tandem partner are in complete control of your movements.
The parachutes of today create a landing that is similar to stepping off of a sidewalk. Unless the weather has picked up, in which case you might be in for a gentle ‘bum-slide’ landing. And by the way, the crew from Skydive Knysna won’t mind at all if your friends and family decide to come and watch your flight and landing back at the landing strip. For an additional fee, you could even land on one of our pristine beaches…
And once you’ve landed, you can go back to your comfortable accommodation for a well-deserved rest!
