April blesses us with two long weekends. And since it heralds the end of the first quarter of the year, this is the perfect time to break away for a couple of days and to unwind – to live life the way it should be lived.
Freedom Day is on Sunday 27 April, which makes Monday 28th a public holiday, and with Easter Weekend only the week before that, we are given the opportunity to either enjoy two long weekends, or to take the four work days off in between and enjoy an eleven day mini holiday!

April is smack in the middle of Knysna’s ‘secret season’ when the days are long and lovely. The most intense summer heat has passed, leaving fantastically comfortable, moderate weather with sun filled days and easy nights. No one in Knysna can tell you just when this ‘secret season’ starts or ends, but it’s the perfect time to explore the area without having to dodge the seasonal crowds.

Now in its 4th year, Knysna’s popular Local Design and Food Market returns with its Easter Market on 17 April, so be sure to include the Thursday in your long weekend plans. Showcasing the best in design and food local to the area, this unique market is known for the quality of its handmade and vintage goods, as well as its large variety of delicious snacks and meals. The market runs from 17:00 to 21:00 at the Upper Level Parking of Knysna Square, 40 Rawson Street, Knysna.
Celebrating its 5th birthday, the Sedgefield Slow Festival runs from 18 to 20 April. Aside from all the good old-fashioned fun that has come to be the essence of the festival, the program will again include some of our favourite events while bringing in some new ones too. From sporty challenges to beach-based fun and fashion events, the festival promises fun and games for the whole family, all orchestrated from the Village Green. And, as usual, the festival culminates in the Slow Festival Amazing Creatures and Band Street Parade on Easter Sunday.
